The American Institute of CPAs has announced the winners of two awards in the forensic and valuation practice areas. The awards were presented this week at the annual AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services Conference in Las Vegas. The Forensic & Litigation Services Volunteer of the Year Award was bestowed upon Michael Fahlman, CPA, CFF, managing director with Berkley Research Group in Phoenix, Ariz. The Business Valuation Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Nathan DiNatale, CPA/ABV, principal with SC&H Capital in Sparks, Md.
The Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Section of the AICPA represents CPAs who provide financial forensic accounting and business valuation services, and offers the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) specialty credentials for CPAs who concentrate in these areas. The Section annually honors its members who have made a positive impact on these areas of the profession.
“These hard-working individuals are being honored for their tireless leadership and dedication in advancing both the forensic and litigation services and business valuation fields within the accounting profession,” said Jeannette Koger, CPA, CGMA, vice president of member specialization and credentialing at the AICPA. “We are thrilled to be recognizing both Michael and Nathan as volunteers of the year amongst their peers at the FVS Conference.”
Michael Fahlman currently serves as a member of the AICPA’s Forensic and Litigation Services (FLS) Committee and is the current chair of the FLS Damages Task Force. He is a regular contributor and reviewer of content for both the AICPA and the American Bar Association (ABA) as well as a conference and webcast speaker. Fahlman teaches at universities, bar associations, and law firms on the topics of forensic accounting and damages. He also is a member of the Arizona Society of CPAs’ Fraud and Litigation Committee, as well as co-chair of the Economic Damages subcommittee of the ABA.
In addition to receiving this award, Fahlman has also been recognized as a recipient of the 2015 Forensic & Valuation Services (FVS) Standing Ovation Program for professional achievement.
Nathan DiNatale, who just finished his third year of service on the AICPA’s Business Valuation Committee, has helped develop quick reference guides, assisted on the coordination and presentation of important webcasts, and authored several articles for AICPA publications. DiNatale’s involvement also has been instrumental in the development of the AICPA FVS Conference, by serving as a member of the FVS Conference Steering Committee for two years. He speaks nationally and is an author on valuation topics> DiNatale is currently the ABV Champion for the state of Maryland.
DiNatale’s primary role at SC&H Capital is leading the Valuation Advisory Services practice – where he focuses on fair value, including purchase price allocations and goodwill impairments, estate and trust valuations, and corporate stock option valuations.
